POSITION: PROGRAM AIDE
POSITION SUMMARY: The Program Aide is responsible for assisting the Activities Director and Administrator in the planning and implementation of program activities and for assisting with meals, snacks, housekeeping, transport, and other administrative and clerical functions of the program.
REPORTS TO: Activities Director / Administrator
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Observation of each participant and immediately reporting any changes in their condition to the Director of Nursing;
Under the supervision of the Activities Director, assisting in the planning and implementation of all program activities, including but not limited to:
Reality orientation
Daily exercise to music
Activé team games
Cognitively stimulating activities
Table games
Arts & Crafts
Facility and Community entertainment
Intergenerational programming
Music Therapy
Parties & Holiday celebrations
Cooking & Workshop activities
Sensory stimulation
Outings
Additionally:
Adheres to and conveys a philosophy that supports the dignity, privacy, independence, choice, and individuality of participants.
Organizes programs, events, and activities around participants' interests.
Participates in the participant care planning process to provide input as to each participant’s involvement in his/her areas of interest.
POSITION: ACTIVITY DIRECTOR
POSITION SUMMARY: Plan and execute therapeutic, social, and fun activities for the day program (daily, weekly, and monthly calendar).
1. Provide a plan of therapeutic activities appropriate to the needs of the residents that includes, but is not limited to:
Group social activities.
Indoor and outdoor activities, which may include daily walks.
Activities away from the facility are planned in advance
Spiritual programs and attendance at houses of worship.
Opportunity for participant involvement in planning and implementation of the program activities
Creative activities such as arts, crafts, music, drama, and educational programs
Exercise activities
One-to-one attention
Promotion of facility/community interaction
2. Prepare a monthly calendar of activities written in large print and posted in a prominent location that is visible to participants and visitors.
3. Coordinate the activities program with other services in the facility.
4. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers when appropriate.
5. Assess participant needs and develop participant activity goals for the written care plan.
Encourage participant participation in activities and document outcomes.
Review goals and progress notes.
6. Obtain necessary equipment and supplies and provide for their accessibility through organized storage.
Participate with the administrator in developing a budget.
Foster family and community support of the activity program (e. g., through newsletters, networking, activities which bring family members or members of the community into the facility, etc.
7. Contribute to facility efforts to maintain and /or improve quality of care through participation in the following:
A. Attend Care Plan meetings.
B. Serve as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee.
C. Attend Department Head Meetings.
D. Attend mandatory in-services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The activity director must have one or more year’s experience working in an adult social or recreational programs.
GENERAL STAFFING REQUIREMENTS
Free of communicable disease
Able to physically/mentally perform tasks, as verified by a health screening that includes TB clearance
Criminal record clearance
Ability to read, write and understand English
General understanding of the needs of the elderly
Willingness to learn
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be at least 21 years of age. High school education or equivalent GED required. Prefer at
least one year’s experience driving professionally.
